Tesco will still ask customers to shop alone from May 17 despite the easing of lockdown restrictions, it’s been confirmed.
Many had speculated the supermarket giant might lift restrictions on ‘shopping alone where possible’ from May 17, as that's when indoor meetings are allowed.
But a Tesco spokesperson told BristolLive that there is “no change” on the rule from May 17.
“We are still asking shoppers to shop alone if they are able to,” they said.
It comes after Boris Johnson confirmed that from May 17 up to six people or two households can meet indoors, and friends and family not from the same household can hug.

The current guidance on the Tesco website reads: “Please shop alone unless you’re a carer or with children.
“We also encourage you to shop only when you need to, in line with government guidance to stay at home.”
The ‘shopping alone’ rule has also been enforced by other supermarkets.
When asked whether the store will change it's 'shop alone' guidance from May 17, a Sainsbury’s spokesperson said the store ‘hasn’t announced anything at this stage’.
“Safety remains our highest priority and we continue to follow government guidance. We will keep customers and colleagues updated on our plans," they said.
From Monday, social distancing measures will remain in place and people have been asked to make sure that they do not mingle with those outside their household/bubble or social group when in an indoor or outdoor setting, this includes supermarkets and other shops.
Shoppers are still expected to wear masks in stores.
