Tesco sets out new rules for all shoppers from this week

Tesco has set out how it will respond to new Covid rules brought in by the Government in England this week.

Masks are now mandatory in all shops in England - bringing the country into line with Wales and Scotland.

Tesco CEO, Jason Tarry said: "Throughout the pandemic, we’ve always had the safety of our customers and colleagues at the front of our minds, and we’ve carefully followed all government guidance."

Mr Tarry said that it will be a legal requirement for customers to wear a face covering Tesco stores (unless exempt).

That will be in addition to current safety measures -

Traffic light system – in the majority of large Tesco stores and busiest Express stores, to help monitor the flow of customers and prevent overcrowding.

Hand sanitisers – at store entrances (and elsewhere) for your hands and to wipe down your basket or trolley.

Protective screens around every checkout – so that Tesco can open all of them and reduce queuing times.

Separate entrances and exits – where possible, to help make going in and out of the store as easy as possible.

Mr Tarry said: "Thank you for helping us all to look after each other."
