Tesco sets limit on five household items as shoppers begin stocking up for Christmas

Tesco has limited the number of five essential items as shoppers stock up for Christmas.

The select range of goods were in short supply over summer and supermarket bosses fear that with three households allowed to bubble from December 23 to 27 a rerun of empty shelves could be on the cards.

Tesco currently has a three per person limit on the following items in stores flour, dried pasta, toilet roll, baby wipes and anti-bacterial wipes.

There will be further limits added to some items online, such as rice and canned veg, with limits places online on some products.

These include eggs, flour, anti-bac products and face coverings or face masks, BirminghamLive reports.

The chain will be busy as we approach Christmas, with the chain being one of the so called Big Four supermarkets in the country.

It comes days after Oliver Dowden has said "he does not accept" predictions by Tesco that no-deal will see prices on EU goods rise by 3% to 5%.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the Culture Secretary said calculations by the Environment Minister said at most price rises would be 2%.

"All of this goes to show that we would much rather have a free trade deal," he said.

"It wouldn't just be us that would be worse off by not having a free trade deal, exactly the same thing would apply to the Irish who export large amounts of beef to us.

"Or, for example, the Germans in respect of cars they send us.

"What we will not accept is this ratcheting up that if the EU decides to impose fresh regulations that have nothing to do with us we have to then match them or face the consequences - they don't demand that of Canada."
