Tesco set to sell vegan-friendly battered Brussels sprouts for Christmas

Love them or hate them - Brussels sprouts are quintessential Christmas.

And with the school summer holidays almost over, what a better time to think about the festive season.

Well, CoventryLive has found out that Tesco has revealed plans to release a Christmas product which will probably divide the nation - battered Brussels sprouts.

Tesco's official product description reads: "Whole sprouts get a party makeover, with a light, crispy, golden batter. Served with the accompanying cranberry dip, they’re the perfect balance of sweet and savoury."

The product has already divided Twitter, with some keen to try battered sprouts, but others giving them a firm ‘no’.

Responding to the news, one person tweeted: “God I hate anything battered and I hate Brussels sprouts. Ready to cry.”

Somebody else added: "Think I’ll give those a miss."

While another tweeter said: "It's a no from me.”

However, some welcome the product. One Twitter user said: "My northern pals tell me they batter Mars bars... so this is tame in comparison but may persuade the sprout averse to tuck in!"

Another fan of the idea, said: “Battered Brussels sprouts. Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before?”

The sprout bites, which are suitable for vegans, will go on sale online and in-store on December 9 - so if you're already chomping at the bit at the thought of trying them, you still have a bit of time to wait.
