Tesco sends important message about the eggs it stocks after shopper fury

Supermarket giant Tesco has issued a statement about how its eggs are now being packaged, after one shopper complained about their 'ridiculous' plastic boxes.

The original complaint was shared on Twitter, after one shopper revealed she had decided against buying eggs from the supermarket when she discovered they were being packaged in plastic boxes, and not in cardboard ones.

The disgruntled shopper wrote: "Would love to know why @Tesco have decided to REPLACE their cardboard egg containers with plastic ones!? Surely this is a ridiculous move!? Safe to say, I didn’t buy them. Please correct this @Tesco - remember that saying #everylittlehelps?"

Tesco has now replied to the query, and it looks like the supermarket has a good reason for its plastic containers.

On Twitter, the official Tesco account wrote: "Hi Casey, thank you for getting in touch today regarding our eggs in the plastic containers. This change affects all sizes of our free range eggs. The packaging was changed to plastic due to the high demand on packaging suppliers during the pandemic.

"Using plastic packaging means we can continue to provide our customers with a consistent supply of eggs. The packaging change is only temporary and it's still 100% recyclable. Thanks."
