This week, the much sought-after monster version of the avocado, aptly named the AVOZILLA, will be returning to UK shelves for a limited time and is expected to sell out fast, especially with the upcoming Bank Holiday and warm seasonal temperatures.
The massive fruit weighs in at a hefty 1.5kg, about ten times heavier than a regular-sized avocado and will be available exclusively at Tesco from Friday, August 27
The extremely rare variety is grown from just a few trees in South Africa, and is available for a matter of weeks each year, with Tesco reporting that the last batch it imported in 2020 sold out in less than a week.
Thanks to a great harvest in its native country, the mighty AVOZILLA can contain up to 10 servings for the retail price of just £4, meaning it can feed a group for just 40p per head.
Great for entertaining, the AVOZILLA is perfect for hosts looking to make a party size portion of guacamole as those catering would only need to remove the skin of one fruit.
Customers can also satisfy their breakfast cravings with enough avocado on toast to serve the whole family for a few days.
Tesco chilled salad and avocado buyer, Katalin Varnai, said: “Back by popular demand, the AVOZILLA is guaranteed to keep people talking year after year.
“The natural monster fruit is extremely rare and comes from just a relatively small number of trees grown by one of the world’s biggest suppliers of avocados in South Africa."
She added: “We know how much the UK likes avocados, so we consider ourselves extremely lucky to be able to offer this treat to our customers. We can’t wait to see what deliciously green creations our nation of avocado lovers will rustle up.”
