Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace after a security guard was left with a serious eye injury in a violent Boxing Day attack in east London.
Officers were called to a Tesco store on Gainsborough Road, Leytonstone, at around 16:22hrs on 26 December 2025 following reports of an assault.
The victim, a security guard in his 60s, was attacked while attempting to speak to a man leaving the shop. He suffered a serious eye injury which required hospital treatment and has caused ongoing visual impairment.

Two others were also hurt during the incident. A second security guard and a member of the public who tried to intervene both sustained minor injuries.
Detectives are now appealing for help to identify the man pictured in CCTV as enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Claudine Davie, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “This was a violent attack on a member of staff who was simply doing his job.
“We have spoken to a number of people who witnessed the incident but are keen to speak to anyone who recognises the man in this CCTV image and would ask them to contact us as soon as possible.
“Similarly, anyone who saw the attack and has not yet spoken to police is encouraged to come forward and speak to officers.”
