Easter weekend means spending time with loved ones, scoffing chocolate and putting your feet up. But if you need to pop to the shops today - be it for a forgotten Easter egg or veg for the all-important roast - you'll want to know when the shops are open.
Most major supermarkets are open over the Easter bank holiday but are operating at reduced hours. Government guidelines meant they had to shut yesterday on Easter Sunday, with only a handful of convenience stores open to sell essentials.
The law around trading hours for retailers state that any shops over 280 square metres (3,000 square foot) must be closed on Easter Sunday. That means it is only 'local' and 'express' stores which opened yesterday, operating Sunday trading hours - but the major chains are allowed to reopen today on Easter Monday (April 18).

The Easter weekend opening times for the 'big six' supermarkets are listed below:
Tesco
All large Tesco stores in England are closed on Easter Sunday. But their Express stores will remain open.
On Easter Monday store opening hours will vary depending on location and store type. You can find out your local store’s opening hours at Tesco’s store locator here.
Sainsbury's
On Easter Sunday the 'vast majority' of Sainsbury's stores in England closed. But Sainsbury’s Local stores opened from 7am to 11pm.
Stores will be open as normal on Easter Monday. Openings hours do vary though, so it’s best to check the store locator for more details.
Morrisons
All Morrisons stores in England closed on Easter Sunday. Stores in Scotland are open as normal.
On Easter Monday most of the stores will be open from 7am to 8am, and a few will remain open until 10pm. Check your local store’s opening hours here.
Aldi
All Aldi stores in England closed on Easter Sunday. They will reopen on Easter Monday from 8am to 8pm. Aldi says some opening hours will vary so check your local store's opening hours here.
Lidl
All Lidl stores in England closed on Easter Sunday, but were open in Scotland. On Easter Monday, stores will be open from 8am to 8pm just like Aldi. Hours may vary at different stores so it’s best to check your local store’s opening hours here.
Asda
All Asda stores in England closed on Easter Sunday. Most Asda stores will reopen on Easter Monday from 6am - 8pm. You can see if your store is open on the Asda store locator.
