Urgent product recalls for festive essentials have been issued by Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury's and Waitrose over health concerns.
The alert is in place for certain types of bread and butter at each of the supermarkets.
Marks & Spencer is recalling their Made Without Wheat Gluten Free White Sourdough Cob because despite its free from labelling, it contains wheat flour (gluten). This has been flagged as a serious health threat for those allergic or intolerant to wheat or gluten as well as those with Coeliac Disease.
While some people with an intolerance will suffer digestive problems after consuming wheat, barley, or rye products, Coeliac Disease is more serious and can result in issues such as fatigue, an itchy rash, muscle and join aches, vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, indigestion and constipation.
Gluten can commonly be found in foods that contains those cereals and this includes:
- Pasta
- Cakes
- Breakfast cereals
- Most types of bread
- Certain types of sauces
- Some ready meals
- Most beers are made from barley
Marks & Spencer has urged all customers to return the loaf for a full refund to the store they purchased it from.

In addition to M&S, Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s are recalling the St Helen’s Farm Goats Butter due to fears that some packages of the product may contain small pieces of metal.
As a result, the manufacturers are temporarily halting sales of St Helen’s Farm Goats Butter and are urging anyone who has a product with the best before date up to and including March 13 2022 to not consume it and instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
More information can be found by calling St Helen’s Farm on 01430 861715 or emailing them at info@sthelensfarm.co.uk. Alternatively you can visit sthelensfarm.co.uk.
Finally, Tesco are recalling their packet of Opies Pickled Walnuts because they may contain mustard and sulphites which are not listed on the label.
Manufacturers say that this could cause a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard and/or a sensitivity to sulphur dioxides or sulphites.
