Tesco, Sainsbury's, Lidl and Waitrose warn customers not to eat butter, nuts and more

Some of the top UK supermarkets have warned customers not to eat butter, dates and nuts over Christmas due to safety fears.

Big names including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Lidl and Waitrose have recalled a number of products in recent days and weeks.

Some of the red-listed foodstuffs are store cupboard staples so it might be worth checking the backs of your cupboards and fridges. And if you've had a Pieminister pie kit for Christmas, it's worth checking that too.

For all the latest food and drink news in Wales, read here.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said some of the products contain ingredients that are not mentioned on the label.

When a product is recalled, for any reason, the FSA shares details on what you should do if you have bought the item, as well as detailed information on why the product is being pulled from shelves.

Here are all the products that have been recalled in the past four weeks.

Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury's

St Helens Farm butter (Food Standards Agency)

St Helen's Farm is recalling St Helen’s Farm Goats Butter because the product may contain small pieces of metal. The possible presence of metal makes this product unsafe to eat.

Opies Pickled Walnuts (Food Standards Agency)

Bennett Opie Ltd is recalling Opies Pickled Walnuts because they may contain mustard and sulphites which are not mentioned on the label.

As a result of a packaging error some jars may contain pickled cornichons and onions with mustard and sulphites as ingredients which are not declared on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard and/or a sensitivity to sulphur dioxides and/or sulphites.
