Tesco ridiculed over 'special offer' which sees customers charged MORE

Could this be one of the worst supermarket deals of all time?

Tesco has been ridiculed online after pictures circulated of an offer you'd do well to refuse.

Posting on a  popular bargain-hunters Facebook group , Amanda Jane Cheese shared with fellow shoppers a picture of a chicken promotion she'd spotted at her local Tesco store in Stowmarket, Suffolk.

The sign under the product stated how the British Extra Large Whole Chicken had been reduced from £4 - sounds decent enough.

But instead of being sold for cheaper, the store now appeared to be charging £4.25 for the chicken.

After Amanda shared the picture on Facebook the likes and comments quickly racked up, with shoppers ready to poke fun at the seemingly innocent pricing error.

"I love spotting these faux pas', it happens all the time in all supermarkets!" said one social media user.

Another joked: "omg...thats a bargain paying an extra 25p."

However, Tesco's website says the same product has been reduced down from £5 to £4.25 - stating a saving of 75p, the Manchester Evening News reports

A spokesperson for Tesco told Manchester Evening News: "We’re sorry for the incorrect labelling on this product, it has now been updated in the store to show the correct reduction from £5 to £4.25."
