Tesco reveals why prices are lower when you have a Clubcard

Tesco has revealed why its Clubcard prices are so much lower than regular prices just before Christmas.

The supermarket chain's membership scheme often gives significant discounts to people who sign up, and about 80 per cent of transactions at large Tesco stores in the UK now use a Clubcard.

And with Christmas just around the corner, the wide range of deals that Tesco Clubcard users get can be a lifesaver for shoppers.

Clubcard prices are often significantly lower than regular prices - and Tesco have now explained how they are able to do this, the Manchester Evening News reports.

When asked why prices can be so much lower for shoppers with a Clubcard, Tesco said: "We're delighted that this analysis has recognised that Tesco Clubcard customers get the best value of any major supermarket when they shop with us – and over 20m of our customers who regularly use Clubcard for their shop agree.

"We make it easy for customers to make choices about the data they share, and you can have a Clubcard and benefit from Clubcard Prices while choosing not to receive targeted marketing.

"We only ever use data that customers have agreed to share with Tesco, which allows us to personalise our offers.

"So, for example, if you’re looking for a bottle of red wine for Christmas, and there’s a great offer on the wine you usually buy, it’s helpful for us to let you know.”

Earlier this week, the Daily Mail found that a basket of branded items costing £42.40 without a Clubcard was slashed by almost a third after the exclusive discounts, lowered to £29.22.

This same basket of items would have cost £32.07 in ASDA, £35.30 in Sainsbury's and £34.58 in Morrisons.
