Tesco prices 'through the roof' say shoppers after delivery van ends up on top of cottage

Shoppers have joked that Tesco prices must be 'through the roof' after a delivery van ended up on the top of a thatched cottage this week.

Photos show  the van  perched on the roof of the cottage in Cheshire, near the house's chimney, with a festive wreath visible over the door.

The van, which is said to hint at  Tesco's new Christmas ad, attracted a crowd of locals from the small community of Knutsford who came to check out what was going on.

And after seeing photos of the surprising scene online, hundreds of people have taken to social media to comment on the matter.

With many cracking jokes about Tesco's "very efficient home delivery service" and that Father Christmas "had to take a second job to make ends meet."

"Hope he doesn't think he is putting that food order down that chimney"

ECHO reader, Rebecca Lacey, said: "That's what I call home delivery."

While Anderson Simon, said: "Tesco prices are going through the roof. Sorry. I’m here all night."

Another ECHO reader who saw the funny sides of the van ending up on the roof was Nigel Catlow.

He said: "Santa's sleigh has been traded in and he's got commercial sponsorship. Well 'Every Little Helps" so they say..."

Similarly, Barry Robinson said: "Recession is hitting everyone hard even Santa has to take a second job to make ends meet. 'Every little helps'."

And Alan Bell added: "Drinks are on the house."

Although many people some the funny side of things, others questioned how the van ended up on the roof in the first place.

Libby Bielby, said: "How on earth did it get up on the roof?

Alessandra Bellini,  Tesco  chief customer officer, said: “Seeing one of our Tesco delivery vans sat on the roof of a cottage caught everyone by surprise this morning.

"It is certainly not something you see every day, but I suspect that anyone watching ITV this Sunday night will have all their questions answered.”
