Tesco outline string of new measures set to be in place in Ireland stores as lockdown begins

Tesco has told customers that there's no need to “alter their normal shopping habits” in the coming weeks, despite the introduction of new Level Five restrictions across Ireland.

The supermarket expects to use a whopping 13,500 litres of hand sanitiser over the next six weeks, among a number of other steps to ensure public safety amid new Level Five restrictions.

From tomorrow, Ireland will adopt tough new restrictions designed to combat the spread of Covid-19.

And Tesco Ireland CEO Kari Daniels has said customer safety is “our number one priority” as the shop moves to implement new safety protocols.

New queue management technology has been rolled out at stores across the country in an attempt to reduce queue times and support social distancing efforts.

And improved hand sanitising stations are also in place, alongside new scanning technology to help customers shop faster and more efficiently.

With the weather likely to deteriorate over the coming months as we head into winter, Tesco has also assured customers that it will put in place measures to protect them against the elements.

Kari Daniels, the CEO of Tesco Ireland, said today: “We know this is an anxious time for those most vulnerable in moving to Level 5 restrictions.

“Customers can be reassured that if they need to travel beyond their 5km radius for food shopping as per Level 5 guidelines, their safety is our number one priority as it has been since this Pandemic emerged in March.

“We’re always looking at ways to improve the experience for customers following the public health guidance as it evolves.

“Customers have responded very well to changes in stores to date and would anticipate they will continue to do so as we move into the Winter months.

“We have a strong and resilient supply chain, with very good availability, so there is no need for customers to alter their normal shopping habits.”
