Supermarket giant Tesco will be keeping some stores across the UK open over the New Year.
As an essential retailer, the chain is allowed to stay open during the Tier 4 restrictions in place across the UK.
But in some locations Tesco stores will closed on New Year's Day, while others will open later and close earlier.
While lots of shoppers are expected to restock their cupboards with household essentials and groceries after Christmas, the supermarket giant is advising shoppers to use the store locator tool online to find out exact details for their local branch before heading out.
Tesco New Year opening times
- 31 December - Most superstores will open between 6am and 8pm
- 1 January - Most stores open between 9am and 6pm. However some superstores will be closed.
- 2 January - Most superstores will open between 6am and 11pm
- 3 January - Most superstores will open normal Sunday trading hours
Previously the chain extended opening hours for shoppers in the run up to Christmas. Selected stores were kept open for 24 hours, giving shoppers longer to pick up festive essentials.
The chain also confirmed it will be rewarding staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the festive period with a 10% bonus.
Confirming the move back in November, Jason Tarry, Tesco UK and ROI CEO, said: “The hard work, dedication and resilience that colleagues have shown over the last few months has been remarkable. This year has proven challenging and uncertain for so many of us and this bonus is a way of saying thank you for the incredible response of our colleagues to these challenges. We’re also giving colleagues an extended 20% discount on their shopping in the run-up to Christmas, to help bring some extra festive cheer.”
