Tesco makes urgent Christmas product recall over health fears

Tesco has released an urgent recall for one of its most popular Christmas food items as the big day draws nearer.

The supermarket giant has recalled the product over potential health risks.

A notice posted by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) reads: "Tesco is recalling a batch of Tesco Finest Festive Belgian Dark Chocolate Brazil Nuts.

"The product has been incorrectly packed with Tesco Finest Festive Fruit and Nut Selection which contains sulphur dioxide that is not mentioned on the label.

"This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites.

"The correctly packed Tesco Finest Festive Fruit and Nut Selection product is not affected by this recall."

MEN reports the following products have been recalled:

Tesco Finest Festive Belgian Dark Chocolate Brazil Nuts

  • Pack size - 225g

  • Batch code - L0075004

  • Best before - End: May 2021

  • Allergens - Sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites

The risk statement reads: "This product contains sulphur dioxide, making it a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites."

The FSA says: "Tesco is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers, which explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product."

Customers are advised: "If you have bought the above incorrectly packed product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought or if preferred, contact Tesco’s Customer Helpline on 0800 505 555 for a full refund without returning the product to store."

Christmas 2020 supermarket opening hours

Supermarkets have changed their opening times this week to give people more time to pick up everything they need.

Many stores including certain Morrisons, Tesco and M&S Food Hall stores are even open until midnight tonight, to help those who have left it to the last minute.
