Tesco launches new supermarket shopping service that will change how customers shop

Tesco is getting ready to introduce a new zero-waste shopping services in its physical stores and online, and it will change the way many customers do their shopping for good.

What zero-waste shopping means is that customers will have the option to purchase products in refillable packaging, rather than in plastic containers that go to waste.

The supermarket has revealed that a huge variety of products will be available in the new packaging at launch, from oats to washing up liquid to tomato ketchup.

As reported by the Daily Record, after customers have finished their products, the containers can be cleaned and refilled at Tesco ready for use again.

The launch will see many well known brands available in the new packaging, such as Bisto, Brewdog, Bulldog, Carex, Coca-Cola, Ecover, Fever Tree, Finish, Good4U, Heinz, Mud House, Naked Noodle, Original Source, Persil, Quaker Oats, Radox, Simple, Sipsmiths and Tetley.

Additionally, many of Tesco's own brand products will be available in the greener packing, including essentials like oil, pasta and rice - with even more coming over the next year.

The service will be launched in 10 stores across England this week, and it will soon come to Scotland if all goes well.

The news follows a year-long online pilot scheme, where customers could order and return products in reusable packaging from their doorstep.

It will work by customers paying a deposit fee on each piece of packaging ranging from 20p to £5 at the checkout.

This is then fully refundable via an app when the empty item is returned to a collection point in the store.

Shoppers wishing to opt for reusable packaging visit the Loop fixture in the store and add the products they want into their trolley as a part of their shop.
