Tesco joins Morrisons in reintroducing lockdown rationing limits, including toilet rolls, pasta and flour

Tesco has again placed limits on the amount of key items shoppers can buy amid fears panic buyers will hoard essential goods.

The supermarket will stop customers from buying large quantities of items including toilet paper, anti-bacterial wipes, pasta and flour, following the Government's decision to impose lockdown-style measures in the UK. Customers will only be able to buy three units of the restricted products at any time.

Tesco - and its rivals - placed bulk buying limits on groceries and essentials when the UK went into full lockdown in March and shelves were stripped - but they were lifted as panic buying subsided.

But now the restrictions are back in place for some items, although the retailer maintained stock levels are adequate and urged customers not to panic buy. Morrisons has also placed limits on the amount of toilet paper customers can purchase.

Tesco said: "We have good availability, with plenty of stock to go round, and we would encourage our customers to shop as normal.

“To ensure that everyone can keep buying what they need, we have introduced bulk-buy limits on a small number of products.”
