Tesco issues urgent recall of popular Christmas item over chemical fears

Tesco has issued an urgent recall on a popular Christmas staple after a packaging mix up.

The supermarket giant has urged customers to return their brand of finest dark chocolate Brazil nuts as they have been incorrectly labelled.

The Manchester Evening News reports a notice posted by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) reads: "Tesco is recalling a batch of Tesco Finest Festive Belgian Dark Chocolate Brazil Nuts.

"They had been packed with Tesco Finest Festive Fruit and Nut Selection which contains sulphur dioxide that is not mentioned on the label.

"This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites.

"The correctly packed Tesco Finest Festive Fruit and Nut Selection product is not affected by this recall."

The risk statement reads: "This product contains sulphur dioxide, making it a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites."

The FSA wrote in a statement "Tesco is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

"The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers, which explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product."

"If you have bought the above incorrectly packed product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites, do not eat it.

"Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought or if preferred, contact Tesco’s Customer Helpline on 0800 505 555 for a full refund without returning the product to store."
