Tesco issues urgent product recall on Christmas snacks due to 'possible risk'

Retail giant Tesco has issued an urgent product recall over one of its most popular Christmas snacks.

Supermarket bosses have warned shoppers that the item could pose a risk to customers after being incorrectly packaged.

The product - Tesco Finest Festive Fruit & Nut Selection (225g) - contains sulphur dioxide, a common preservative which is not mentioned on the label of some batches of the item.

Some people have suffer from sensitivity to sulphur dioxide or sulphites and a warning has been issued to customers urging them not to consume the Christmas snack.

Tesco explained that a batch of the product had been mistakingly placed in the Tesco Finest Festive Belgian Dark Chocolate Brazil Nuts packaging - meaning that the appropriate health warnings have not been made clear.

Tesco said: "This means that sulphur dioxide is not mentioned on the label, so the mispackaged product is a possible risk to customers with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide or sulphites.

"The correctly packed product is not affected."

The following batch has been affected:

  • Batch code(s): L0075004
  • Best before end dates: May 2021

You should not consume the product if you have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide or sulphites

Instead, you can return the item to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.
