Tesco issues online shopping update to all customers as changes to receipts confirmed

Tesco has issued an update to shoppers that use their online services.

In an attempt to reduce the amount of paper used, the supermarket giant has announced they will be making changes to shopping receipts.

Moving forward, Tesco will be removing paper delivery notes.

The company that promises 'every little helps' has said they will be gradually phasing out the paper receipts and only send e-receipts.

Tesco has been trialling sending out electronic receipts via email.

They’re sent out on the day of a delivery or collection, once the order has been picked.

In a message to shoppers, the supermarket added : "That means you can see any changes to your order before it’s delivered to your door or collected from one of our Click+Collect locations. This has been alongside giving you a paper delivery note with your shopping.

"As part of our continued aim to reduce paper use, we’ll now be removing paper delivery notes. We’ll gradually phase out paper receipts for all customers and only send an e-receipt."

A benefit of e-receipts, according to Tesco, is that shoppers can see substitutions before the delivery or collection.

It added: "This gives you more time to decide whether to accept a substitution or return the item to your driver or Click+Collect colleague as normal for a refund. Don’t forget, you’ll never be charged any more for a substitution, even if it’s at a higher cost than the product you chose.

"The e-receipt will only be sent to the registered email account of the person placing the order. So if you’ve ordered for someone else, you’ll be the only one to receive the email.

"Thank you for shopping with us – and look out for your e-receipt with your next online order."
