Tesco is making some huge changes to its Clubcard scheme - here's everything you need to know

As Christmas approaches, there's no better time to start racking up loyalty points during your Tesco shop.

Whether you're nipping in to your local shop for a chicken or to stock up on booze for the weekend, all the points you'll save by doing so will contribute to a nice little pot which you can reap the benefits from during the festive period. Every little helps, after all.

And now Tesco wants to make its Clubcard scheme even more fruitful for customers - but there's a catch.

The retailer has revealed plans for a new Clubcard Plus scheme, which will give shoppers discounts on food alongside other perks like 10 per cent off selected Tesco brands and double data free of charge for those on Tesco mobile.

The biggest perk, though, is that the supermarket will give Clubcard Plus holders 10 per cent off the price of their entire shop .

This means that someone spending £100 will save £10 - which, if done twice a month, equates to a whopping £240 a year.

Major changes are coming to Tesco Clubcard and Nectar card users

The only setback is that the Plus membership will cost shoppers £7.99 a month, or £95.88 a year. Standard Clubcard membership will remain free, but won't include any of the perks you'll get on the Clubcard Plus scheme.

If you're a regular Tesco customer the Clubcard Plus scheme certainly seems worthwhile, as it means that you can bag 10 per cent off F&F, Fred & Flo, Go Cook, Tesco Pet, Carousel, and Fox & Ivy brands every time you shop.

Shoppers will also be able to bag themselves some points-boosting offers which are based on their shopping habits, such as 20 extra points on branded bread.

Speaking about the changes, Tesco's Chief Customer Officer, Allesandra Bellini, said: "New Clubcard Plus is a breakthrough innovation giving customers even more ways to get the best value while shopping at Tesco, for their everyday essentials, weekly shops, Mobile and Banking".

The scheme is set to be launched later this year, but Tesco has not given an official release date yet.
