Tesco Ireland urgent recall issued for popular baking product over nut allergy fears

Tesco has issued an urgent allergy alert over a popular baking product sold in stores across Ireland.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland shared the notice on Friday.

It concerns a batch of the 500g Tesco Fondant Icing product, which may contain undeclared nuts.

This poses a serious risk to customers with a nut allergy.

The batch implicated in the notice has a code of 21175 and a best before date of Sept 2022.

The product was "mispackaged" and therefore may contain almonds which are not identified on the label.

An FSAI spokesman said: "The implicated batch of Tesco Fondant Icing was mis-packed with Tesco Marzipan.

"The product contains nuts (almonds) which are not mentioned on the label.

"This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to nuts."
