Tesco Ireland update on what will happen in stores on October 22 as restrictions ease

Tesco have confirmed that safety measures in their stores are likely to continue beyond the October 22 grand reopening.

The majority of restrictions are set to lift in just over a week's time, but mask wearing in retail settings will remain compulsory.

And Irish supermarket giant Tesco has confirmed that the shopping experience in their stores will not be all that different.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "“The safety of our customers and colleagues remains our number one priority and we continue to review and adhere to Government safety advice and public health guidelines in all our stores.”

At the moment, social distancing is recommended in store while masks are compulsory.

The October 22 reopening itself has been thrown into doubt after the most recent comments by NPHET and the Taoiseach.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said he will make a further announcement on the easing of final restrictions.

It’s expected to be after Cabinet meets next week on October 19.

Sources have said NPHET have indicated they need to look at more data to understand if the current rise in positivity rates is a blip or a trend that may take hold.

Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney told RTÉ News that unless “compelling evidence” emerges, the Government remains on track to move ahead with the removal of all remaining legal restrictions on October 22.
