Tesco Ireland issues urgent recall for popular snack due to contamination fears

Tesco Ireland has issued an urgent recall for a popular snack product over health fears.

The retailer shared a notice on Wednesday over some batches of Linwoods Cold Milled Flax, Sunflower, Pumpkin & Sesame Seeds & Goji Berries 425G.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has advised that these batches should be recalled due to the presence of ethylene oxide in the sesame seeds, which is not permitted for use in food in the EU.

A FSAI spokesman said: "Although the consumption of products containing the contaminated sesame seeds do not pose an immediate risk to health, there may be heath issues if there is continued consumption of ethylene oxide over a long period.

"Therefore, exposure to this substance needs to be minimised. Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batch."

The batches affected by the recall are those with the best before dates of 31/08/21 and 30/09/21, and with the batch codes 21720, 23420, 23220, 24620 and 25420.

A Tesco spokesman added: "Please do not consume the affected product. Instead, you can return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required."
