Tesco Ireland apologises after a number of customers charged twice for transactions

Tesco Ireland customers are being advised to check their bank statements after the supermarket admitted a "technical error" has resulted in shoppers being billed twice.

The issue, which emerged on Wednesday, saw payments made in store appearing as two transactions on statements.

If you've shopped in-store at Tesco recently and believe you may have been affected, you should check your account immediately.

If you're concerned about being double-charged, speak to in-store customer service staff – especially if you receive an error message on the card reader.

Tesco Ireland has said it has resolved the issue – and automatically refunded customers who had been double charged.

However, the issue is still rampant in the UK.

Those affected in the UK instantly took to Twitter to complain.

''I seemed to have been double paid for a recent transactions what do I do?'' one said.

''I've been charged twice this morning when paying for fuel after being told the first payment didn’t work?! how do I get this resolved ASAP?'' added another.

''I got double charged on a shop I did last Friday and it’s still pending in my account. When will this get fixed??'' said a third.

A Tesco Ireland spokesperson told the Irish Mirror:

“A small number of customer card payments were authorised more than once due to a technical error.

''The issue has been resolved and all affected customers have had their duplicate transactions reversed automatically.

''We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.''
