Tesco in hot water with furious shoppers who use Apple Pay

Supermarket giant Tesco has found itself in hot water with furious Clubcard customers who use Apple Pay.

Shoppers have reported a glitch when using Apple Pay alongside their Clubcards.

It is reportedly leaving shoppers missing out on saving cash when they come to pay at the checkout.

Normally, Tesco credit card users automatically get points or discounts without having to scan their Clubcard.

However, Apple Pay is not automatically included, reports The Times.

One fumed: "Paid for a shop today with my credit card/Clubcard via Apple Pay and seems you can't link the Clubcard prices to the credit card/Clubcard meaning you lose out on the Clubcard prices."

Tesco said: “Information regarding Apple Pay is in the welcome booklet, as well as on our website and online community pages.

"If a customer does not receive their full allocation of points and discounts we can correct this.”

Another tweeted: "Can you explain why Clubcard points are no longer collected when payment is made via Apple Pay?

"There is no error on the phone, the tills just don’t recognise the Clubcard and then also using ApplePay doesn’t event recognise any card when hovering over reader," fumed a third.

Another added: "My Clubcard on my Apple Pay says ‘not recognised’ and doesn’t seem to work on your tills. Newmarket Tesco refused to help me and I walked away with no points but luckily Ely kindly inputted my card number in so I wouldn’t miss out on offers."

A Tesco spokesperson told Manchester Evening News: “When a customer uses a Tesco Bank credit card in a Tesco store they collect points both for their shopping, and for paying with their Tesco Bank card. If this is done using Apple Pay, customers must also first tap their Clubcard at the till to ensure they receive all their points, and any discounts. Information regarding Apple Pay is included in the welcome booklet customers receive with their credit card, as well as on our website and online community pages.

"If a customer does not receive their full allocation of points and discounts they should contact Tesco so we can correct this for them.”
