Tesco has an announcement for anyone who buys toilet roll

Tesco is doing its bit to save on haulage, as the supermarket scraps its big pack of 24 toilet rolls for good.

A reduction in size will also see less packaging used.

Tesco says it will instead offer a 12 pack, with a new way of winding toilet paper more tightly on to cardboard tubes.

The new "double rolls" will have twice the number of sheets on them, which the supermarket says will save 67 tonnes of plastic packaging per year.

The move will also mean Tesco uses 17 fewer lorries a week.

Tesco is also planning to shrink its smaller packs before the end of the year using the same method, ahead of further changes in the coming months.

Katie Frost, buying manager, paper at Tesco, said: “As well as removing unnecessary plastic, reducing the size of multipacks will free up valuable space in our lorries that can be put to great use this Christmas.

“We are looking at a number of ways to use less packaging as a part of our 4Rs packaging strategy.

"In the last few years, we have cut six thousand tonnes of packaging from products, including a billion pieces of plastic.”
