Tesco extends Clubcard deadline for shoppers to redeem their points following IT issues

Tesco has extended its deadline for customers to triple the value of Clubcard points following shoppers complaining of having IT issues with its online system meaning people will have a bit longer to redeem their points at the higher triple value.

Currently, shoppers at the leading retail chain can redeem their Clubcard points for triple their value when used against a “Reward Partner” meaning 500 points that would be worth £5 to spend in-store would be worth £15 when used with another company.

This was due to be reduced to double their value from today on Wednesday meaning 500 points would be worth £10, but shoppers now have until 11.59pm on Thursday (June 15) to redeem their points at the higher triple value, reports the Mirror.

Tesco says the technical problems are a result of the high demand to swap vouchers ahead of the original deadline after customers took to social media to complain that they were unable to swap their vouchers to use with “Reward Partners."

These partnering businesses include the likes of Legoland, Disney+ and Pizza Express, and will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

“What’s going on with your website today? I’ve got some Tesco Clubcard points to redeem today to secure 3x points value," one person asked on Twitter.

“Is it a temporary glitch or are you no longer operating? Cannot get any page to load."

Another person tweeted: “Tesco Clubcard site not working [sic] repeated error messages.”

A third customer said: “You need to sort your website out @Tesco #clubcard. You must have expected this demand for point swapping in these last few days.”

Meanwhile, Tesco has recently made another Clubcard change that affects drivers filling up their vehicles at one of its forecourts.

Drivers used to be awarded one point for every £2 they spend on fuel, but from today on Wednesday (June 14) you now get one point for every two litres of fuel purchased.

It comes as the retail giant made huge changes to its online delivery service last month, with shoppers forced to spend a minimum of £50 online or they incur an extra charge of £5 as of May 2.

Tesco shoppers used to have to spend a minimum of £40 and the extra charge for going under this amount was £4. The minimum order fee of £25 for click-and-collect shoppers has remained the same.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Clubcard unlocks the best value from Tesco - from thousands of exclusive deals through Clubcard Prices, to money off your groceries and fuel, or accessing double the value of your vouchers with more than 100 Clubcard Reward Partners.

"Millions of people tap their Tesco Clubcard every time they shop, benefiting from access to more than 8,000 weekly deals on Clubcard Prices.

"And with potential savings of up to £351 a year, more people than ever before are making the most of the immediate value that Tesco Clubcard offers.

"We are making a change to how members can use their vouchers with our Reward Partners, but they will still be able to unlock great value in the same range of ways as before."
