Let's face it - as a nation, we're pretty rubbish at making small talk with strangers.
But for some reason, we still keep trying, even when the odds are stacked against us and we know that anyone listening to the forced conversation and bad jokes will be curling in on themselves with secondhand embarrassment.
And to prove that point, one Tesco employee on TikTok has shared some of the most common things customers say to her when they put their shopping on the conveyor belt - and all of them make her cringe.
The worst part? I know I've definitely said each one at least once, and I bet you have too.

Holly Dixon posted a video in which she listed some of the things she hears "at least 10 times each shift" while working on the tills at Tesco, including the cringeworthy "joke" people always make whenever an item doesn't want to scan.
In the clip, posted to her @hollydixon2112 account, she explained the first thing she hears every day is customers telling her they "only came in for one thing", despite having what seems like "the whole shop" in their trolley.
Next up was the classic joke: "Oh, it's not scanning? It must be free!"
To which an unimpressed Holly simply wrote in text on the video: "Absolutely not."

Finally, the employee said she isn't fond of customers who say she "looks bored" and state they're going to "give her something to do" by choosing her till for their shopping.
She said: "I was happy chilling and counting down the minutes until I finish."
In the comments, some people shared their own experiences with working in supermarkets as they quoted other popular phrases that customers use whenever they're at work.
One person said: "I get asked if I'm worried about losing my job if they use the self-service till."
While another added: "Or they ask for a lottery ticket and then go 'the winning one would be good' when you ask what one they want."
And others admitted they've definitely used these common sayings at least once, with one user posting: "I hold my hand up that I'm probably one of these people that say these things."
While Holly might poke fun at the customers she sees while working in Tesco, she defended her job in the comments when someone suggested it was "time for a job change", as she said: "I love my job."
