Tesco employee at Welsh store tests positive for coronavirus

A Tesco employee has been asked to self-isolate after testing positive for coronavirus in Wales.

The staff member - who works at the Bangor Extra store - tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this month, North Wales Live reports.

It is understood the case was contracted outside of work and the employee was asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

Tesco said it was unable to comment on individuals, but confirmed that single positive case was reported.

In a statement, Tesco said: "The safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority."

The supermarket is said to actively follow government and public health advice in relation to coronavirus.

Additionally, any colleague who has symptoms of the virus or tests positive is subject to two weeks self-isolation and is paid in full from their first day of absence.

It's part of "extensive measures" introduced to help keep "everyone safe," a spokesperson said.

Additional measures include protective screens at checkout, social distancing signage and regular deep cleaning.
