Tesco customers contacted after 'technical error' at small number of petrol stations

Some Tesco customers received payment requests for fuel they purchased up to three months ago following a 'technical error' at a small number of petrol stations.

Customers affected will be contacted by the supermarket and have been told they will not be charged twice.

The messages says that due to a "technical glitch", some customers did not actually pay for fuel they used to fill up their vehicles at the time.

It explains: "We're very sorry to let you know that, unfortunately, one or more of our credit/debit card payments didn't process at our petrol filling station(s).

Customers are then told that the payments will be withdrawn within five working days.

Customers affected are being contacted (PA)

Tesco said that the issue occurred during the October, November and December months but not specifically how many customers or which petrol stations were affected.

Shoppers have been able to be identified as they used their Clubcard at the time to collect points on their fuel.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: "Due to a technical error, there has been a delay in processing card payments for some customers at a small number of our petrol filling stations.

"We are contacting customers affected to let them know that their payments will now be processed.

"We appreciate this may be inconvenient for some customers and we are very sorry to anyone affected by this."
