Tesco confirms coronavirus outbreak at south west store as staff self-isolate

Tesco has confirmed that a number of employees are self-isolating following a localised coronavirus outbreak at one of its south west stores.

The supermarket giant has said the outbreak took place at an Extra store in Swindon, which employs hundreds of people.

Mirror Online reports that the exact number of workers who tested positive is currently unknown.

The news comes after Swindon was recently placed on a government watchlist after a surge in Covid-19 infections in the town.

Tesco has said it has introduced a number of measures to try and prevent the spread of coronvirus.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: "We have introduced extensive measures across all of our stores to help keep everyone safe, including protective screens at every checkout, social distancing signage and regular deep cleaning."

Swindon was added to the coronavirus surveillance report on August 7, published by Public Health England.

The list covers places where extra measures such as local lockdowns or increased testing may be introduced.
