Tesco Clubcard shoppers warned about 'common' mistake

Shoppers across the county have tightened their belts recently as the cost of living crisis continues to spiral. It's a trend that has been replicated across the country and some savvy supermarket shoppers have been carefully calculating the costs of individual items in their baskets. One shopper warned fellow Tesco Clubcard members to think twice before merely seeking out the yellow Clubcard price tickets.

The supermarket giant introduced Clubcard Prices to "reward members with exclusive deals in-store and online" and has a two-tier pricing structure for some of its products based on whether customers have signed up to its free Clubcard scheme. However, some shoppers have queried whether they are still getting the best deal.

Taking to social media, one shopper warned fellow bargain hunters about a 'common' mistake. Birmingham Live reported that the person had posted on Facebook telling shoppers not to just blindly look out for the yellow Clubcard prices. As an example, they compared two packs of toilet rolls (albeit different brands) one had a special Clubcard price and the other didn't. She pointed out although they were the same price, you would be getting more for your money if you bought the product without the Clubcard price.

The shopper was reported as explaining: "Don’t let the Clubcard prices catch you out! Andrex 16 rolls x 155 sheets = 2480 Velvet 24 rolls x 150 sheets = 3600. Just because it’s on the Clubcard price doesn’t mean it works out better."

Replying to the post, one person said: "This is so common - keep seeing posts on the Asda budget range but when I compared price/volume some were more expensive than regular Asda products." Another person added: 'I've always checked the cost per sheet or roll, or wherever when buying as its stated on ticket. Same with any other product. Cost per weight, volume etc. Clubcard price ain't always the better deal, just look at the shelf pricing [and] make buying choices accordingly. Good post to let ppl be more aware when shopping"
