Tesco Clubcard shoppers reminded of crucial change as app scrapped this week

Tesco Clubcard customers have been reminded of changes to the way that they shop with an update to their app this week.

People who shop at the popular supermarket have been reminded that as of April 18, the Clubcard app has been scrapped.

Because of this, customers are warned to take note of the change if they want to avoid losing their hard earned points or risk having to spend more if they don't switch to the new app.

People are now being asked to switch to the general Tesco app called the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app. The app will have similar functions to the previous one where customers can keep track of Clubcard points and in addition, the app will also be able to be used for booking home delivery slots.

These aren't the only changes shoppers can expect, with Wales Online reporting that more is expected to come into force later in the year - including higher online delivery minimums.

Last month Tesco announced changes to its delivery offers, which will see customers needing to spend more to qualify for the same charges. The supermarket giant has upped the prices of its minimum charges for delivery, as well as increasing the delivery fee.

In a note on its website, the supermarket said that from May 2, the minimum basket charge for delivery would increase to £5. The minimum basket charge is added to all orders that don’t meet the minimum basket value. At the same time, the minimum basket value for home delivery will change to £50. The minimum order value for Click+Collect will remain at £25 for all stores.

At present, a minimum basket charge of £4 is added to home delivery orders if your basket total is under £40 minimum.

The changes mean that Tesco will have the highest minimum order value of all the online supermarkets from May. The grocery giant has justified the changes, which affect subscribers to its Delivery Saver Plan as well as more occasional online shoppers, saying the move would help ensure its grocery home shopping operation remained as efficient as possible.

As well as these changes, the value of Clubcard vouchers are set to decrease in value. From June 14, your Clubcard vouchers will be worth twice their value instead of 3x as they are turned into Reward Partner Codes.

However, it is worth noting that if you redeem your Clubcard points before June 13, you can still get the full 3x value.

Tesco explains on its official website: "We’re extending the validity period on Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner codes ordered until June 13, so that they’re valid for 12 months, rather than the usual 6 months. So don’t worry, there’s plenty of time to use them at their current value before we make the change.’

"If you already have a Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner code, you can still use it at up to 3x the value until its expiry date. The expiry date can be found in your order email or in the My Rewards section in the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app.

On the same day, the way you collect clubcard points for fuel is also changing. From June 14, fuel customers will get one Clubcard point for every two litres of fuel purchased. Currently, you get one Clubcard point for every £2 spent on fuel such as petrol from Tesco Petrol Filling Stations (excluding Esso stations at Tesco Express shops).
