Tesco Christmas advert 2021: Why are some people complaining about the supermarket's Xmas ad?

Tesco are at the heart of the latest Christmas controversy as their ad left many people angry after showing a double vaccinated Santa who had to show a vaccine passport.

The advert, called "This Christmas, Nothing's Stopping Us", shows families congregating after last year's restrictions meant many families couldn't see each other.

Soon after the ad's release on Saturday (November 13), #BoycottTesco began trending on Twitter as some angry shoppers complained.

The Tesco advert was "propaganda" and "disgusting", according to the strong views of one Twitter user.

The ad, which is set to the Queen classic "Don't Stop Me Now", has received more than 1,500 complaints after Santa Claus has to show a vaccine passport to gain safe arrival into the country.

Most of the complaints made to the UK advertising regulator state the scene is coercive and encourages medical discrimination.

A spokesperson at the Advertising Standards Authority said: "We are currently carefully reviewing these complaints to determine whether there are any grounds for further action.”

Many of those upset by the ad are from the anti-vaccination movement, with many upset consumers vowing never to shop at the supermarket again.

However, there are also plenty of fans of the ad.

Another Twitter user wrote: "Has anyone told the anti-vaxxers Father Christmas isn't real?

"They're boycotting Tesco for a hilarious Xmas advert."
