Tesco changes in-store shopping guidelines - and some customers are not happy

There's been an angry reaction from some customers after supermarket giant Tesco changed how people are allowed to move around stores.

The one-way system operated inside its supermarkets was removed earlier this month, in response to Government guidance.

Explaining the decision, a Tesco spokesperson said: “The safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority and we are closely following Government guidance, reports the Manchester Evening News.

"We have reviewed the social distancing measures in our stores to ensure that they are in line with the latest guidance and that everyone can continue to maintain a safe distance.

"We ask that our customers continue to support us by following the measures in place."

But not all shoppers are pleased by the alterations - and some shoppers have been voicing their opinions on social media, reports MyLondon.

One customer posted on Twitter: "Tesco, I am absolutely astounded that you have decided to remove the one way system in your store. You have gone from being a place which I thought was fantastically organised to somewhere I no longer feel safe.

"Please reinstate it, and please stop large groups entering."

Another questioned: "Why have you removed one way system? Only reason I've stuck with you during Covid."

"I asked a Tesco supervisor last week when I was following their one-way system, which I'd sadly memorised, why so many people were ignoring it. I hadn't noticed they'd done away with it. His answer was that people weren't sticking to it," said another Twitter user.

Tesco has now responded to the shoppers' displeasure.

A spokesperson for the supermarket giant said: "We have been listening to customer feedback and monitoring how our social distancing measures are working in practice and have decided to remove the one-way system in stores to help customers do their shopping safely and efficiently, while maintaining a two-metre distance."
