Tesco brand cheese urgently recalled in Ireland over potential vomiting fears

Tesco Ireland is recalling one of its own brands of cheese after "Listeria Monocytogenes" was detected.

The bacteria can cause awful side-effects, including vomiting, nausea, fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.

In some cases, its impact can be more severe and cause "serious complications."

Those most vulnerable to infection include pregnant women, children and people who have a low immune system.

And it can worryingly take over three weeks for symptoms to show.

The affected batch, Tesco Finest Taleggio PDO Italian Cheese, has a use by date of January 25, with point-of-sale notices to be displayed in stores nationwide.

A message on the FSAI website reads: "Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.

"In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to   Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.

"The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days."
