Tesco branches in Perth bring in restrictions to limit a return to panic buying

Tesco stores on Edinburgh Road and South Street in Perth have brought in restrictions on flour and toilet roll today in a bid to limit panic buying.

The stores have been experiencing high demand on some key items as the public fears another lockdown situation is coming.

Staff at Tesco Edinburgh Road, Perth's main superstore, were asking customers wanting flour, dried pasta, toilet roll, baby wipes and anti-bacterial wipes not to put more than three of these items in their baskets. Notices went up today on certain shelves in the supermarket explaining the limit.

A similar situation was reported at the smaller South Street branch in Perth city centre.

The rush on cleaning items and store cupboard essentials is reminiscent of how things were in early March when people were anticipating the UK-wide lockdown declared by Boris Johnson.

A rise in positive coronavirus cases across the UK in the past few weeks has prompted FM Nicola Sturgeon to make pubs close from 10pm from Friday, September 25 and for no more than one household to meet indoors.
