Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's drop petrol prices

Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's have all cut the price of petrol at their forecourts.

Asda cut the price of unleaded fuel by 3p a litre. It took effect on Friday. Tesco has also reduced the cost of petrol at its 500 forecourts by up to 3p a litre.

And Sainsbury’s has also cut the price of unleaded petrol by up to 3p a litre across all of its 314 forecourts.

Asda said it means people filling up at one of its 322 petrol stations will pay no more than 122.7p a litre for unleaded. But diesel remains unchanged at 126.7p a litre.

Asda senior fuel buyer Dave Tyrer said: "With wholesale costs falling, we're pleased to be able to pass these savings on to our customers."

He also had a pop at their rivals for their fuel promotions, North Wales Live reports.

He added: “Other supermarkets have gone down the route of forcing their customers to spend £40 or £60 in store before offering money off their fuel."

Tesco’s buying manager for fuel Rodger Beer said: "We’re cutting the price of fuel in our filling stations to help our customers save money."

David Pegg, fuel buying manager for Sainsbury’s, said: " As we head into autumn after a busy summer, we are committed to helping our customers live well for less, whether they’re stocking up on groceries or refuelling their cars.

"That’s why we’re dropping the price of unleaded petrol by up to 3p per litre across every single one of our forecourts by Sunday."
