Tesco, Asda and Morrisons issue urgent recalls on Nutella, ice cream cones and more

Tesco, Asda and Morrisons are just some of the big retailers that have issued urgent recalls on a range of foods in the past fortnight.

Products that have been pulled from shelves include Nutella bars, Tesco ice cream cones, Asda pies and M&S dates.

If you’ve purchased one of these items, you shouldn’t eat it - instead, return it to your nearest store for a full refund.

In some cases, the Food Standards Agency - which oversees recalls - says the products have been pulled after some ingredients were left off the labels.

This means they could pose a risk to some people with allergies, as they may not realise the item contains an ingredient that they’re allergic to.

Other foods have been recalled over fears they could be contaminated with Hepatitis A.

When a product has been recalled, you should be able to return it to the place you purchased it, or the manufacturer, for a full refund.

In most cases, you don’t need to have your receipt to get your money back.

Asda

Asda is recalling its Extra Special Frozen Leek and Mushroom Pie because it contains milk that isn’t mentioned on the label.

This means it could be dangerous for those with an intolerance to milk products.

Pack size: 170g

Best before: All dates

M&S

The posh supermarket is pulling packs of its Stuffed Medjool Dates as a precautionary measure over fears they could be contaminated with Hepatitis A.

Symptoms of Hepatitis A usually include fever, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, dark-coloured urine and jaundice.

It follows a similar precautionary recall from Sainsbury’s dates last month, which were also pulled over Hepatitis A fears.

Pack size: 350g

Best before: July 31, 2021

Morrisons

Morrisons is recalling Nutella Ferrero B-ready bars because they contain ingredients that aren't listed in English on the label.

Items that are listed in Polish instead of English include barley, wheat, milk, hazelnut and soya.

Again, when ingredients aren't included on a label, it could prove dangerous for people with allergies.

Morrisons said no other Nutella Ferrero B-ready packs are affected.

Pack size: 132g (6 x 22g)

Best before: All dates

Tesco

Packs of Tesco Free From Toffee and Vanilla Cones have been pulled because they contain milk which is not mentioned on the label.

This means they could be a health risk for those with an intolerance to milk.

Pack size: 110ml (four pack)

Batch code: L10233L1

Best before: End of July 2022

Itsu

Itsu vegetable gyoza sold in some of the big four supermarkets is being recalled over fears it could cause allergic reactions.

The packs contain crustaceans, fish, molluscs and egg - so they also aren't suitable for someone with a vegetarian or vegan diet.

The recall notice also says some packs may contain egg, which isn't listed on the label.

The packs are available at Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's for £3.75 each and have previously also been sold at Tesco.

Pack size: 300g

Best before: April 11, 2022
