Tesco announces controversial change to every single UK supermarket - leaving some shoppers furious

Supermarket giant Tesco has announced that it is changing the price of one of its most-purchased items in all of its UK supermarkets.

In a bid to reduce the amount of plastic bags being sold in supermarkets, Tesco is now charging 20p for its bags for life.

The bags had previously been priced at 10p each.

Shoppers have already hit out over the plastic bag price hike.

Posting on Twitter, one shopper said: "Right since when have tesco’s bag for life been 20p that’s ridiculous."

" @Tesco 20p for your bags? God is watching you," tweeted somebody else.

A third wrote: "Tesco’s bags are 20p. Be great idea to start investing in stocks."

" #Tesco I thought you said “every little helps” Why are your carrier bags 20p?" asked somebody else.

Christina Dixon, Senior Ocean Campaigner for the Environmental Investigation Agency, told the Sun: "Our recommendation is selling bags for at least 70p to truly drive the change we need to protect our environment."

Sainsbury's currently charges either 5p or 10p for its bags for life.

From July, Asda increased the prices of its plastic bags to 15p each.

Morrisons says it charges 30p per bag for life.

Aldi's bags for life are currently priced at 20p.
