Tesco announces change to queuing rules for when it's raining

After weeks of warm, sunny weather, the UK has returned to its usual grey and rainy self. The May heatwave came to an abrupt end overnight, with rain sweeping the North, and temperatures plummeting from the twenties to the teens.

Aside from making it impossible to sunbathe in the garden or park, the rainy weather also means that supermarket shoppers now have to risk getting damp while they queue to get in stores.

Tesco has noted this, and has now changed its rules for shoppers who need to queue to get in stores while the weather's bad.

Instead of queueing outside, the supermarket says it may ask people to wait in their cars.

A statement on Tesco's website says: "If it's raining or particularly cold, we may ask you to stay in your car to queue – we'll let you know when you can come in."

If you want to avoid the queues, it's a good idea to check the quietest time to shop at Tesco.

Although reasonably busy on Monday afternoons, with 1pm on average being listed as the most popular time with a wait of up to 20 minutes, weekdays tend to be quieter than weekends.

The best times to go from Monday to Thursdays are before 11am and after 4pm.

Fridays are considerably busier than the previous four days, peaking at around 1pm and Wednesday afternoons after 3pm are the quietest for shoppers - with the wait dropping under 10 minutes
