Terry McLaurin’s continued absence in the preseason raises questions

Another preseason game came and went for the Washington Redskins, and once again, rookie wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who Washington drafted in the third round — was nowhere to be seen.

After playing only one play in the first preseason game of the year against the Cleveland Browns, Washington fans were expecting to get a heavy dose of McLaurin in Week 2. Those fans left disappointed. The 1’s came and went with Case Keenum, the 2’s stayed a while with Dwayne Haskins, and then the 3’s mopped things up at the end of the game. All the while, McLaurin was rooted to the sideline with no explanation as to why he wasn’t seeing the field.

An reason was made clear after the game as Redskins coach Jay Gruden explained that McLaurin had a minor tailbone injury.

Ever since the Redskins drafted McLaurin out of Ohio State in April, the constant buzz has been about what an incredible playmaker he is. At this point, it seems that the team is doing everything they can to protect him, and save his body for the regular season. If it’s something else, that could be detrimental to the teams’ outlook this year.
