Terrorist Fugitive Arrested in Tunisia

Tunisia’s counter-terrorism units arrested a 38-year-old wanted terror convict who is facing a jail verdict of 36 years.

The Tunisian felon, according to interior ministry records, had acted as a lone wolf who pledged allegiance to one of ISIS’ offshoots.

Security apparatuses said the convict was taken in without resistance.

The terrorist was a resident of the central Sidi Bouzid region. He was being closely monitored by security forces and was arrested while attempting to covertly visit his family.

Specialized research centers estimate that some 300-400 sleeper cells are present in Tunisia, mainly in densely populated regions and slums. Some cells resort to rugged hideouts in mountainous terrain where they gain an advantage in attacking border patrols, counter-terrorism and army units.

Meanwhile, Tunisian security forces arrested another terrorist in the southeastern Gabes region and charged him with carrying out secret military training in a rural olive grove.

The suspect, according to authorities, is about 33-years-old and was deported from France after having illegally migrated there by sea from Tunisia.

They said the suspect had shared ISIS training camp videos on his social media.
