Terrorism arrest: Man, 22, held by police in Bath in relation to six offences

A man has been arrested in Bath on suspicion of six terrorism-related offences today.

The 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of encouraging terrorism, spreading terrorist publications, possessing racially inflammatory material, and fundraising contrary to the Terrorism Act 2000.

Counter-terrorism police searched two properties in Bath, and made the arrest as part of an investigation into suspected right-wing terrorism online.

The arrest was reportedly made at a flat off London Road, but police will neither confirm nor deny the location or other identifying details.

A spokeswoman for Counter Terrorism Policing North East said: "A 22-year-old man from Bath has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences under the Terrorism Act.

"The man was arrested by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East supported by officers from CTP South West."

The man was arrested on suspicion of:

Encouragement of Terrorism contrary to Section 1 Terrorism Act 2006;

Dissemination of Terrorist Publications contrary to Section 2 Terrorism Act 2006;

Possession of material that is of use to a terrorist contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000;

Fundraising contrary to section 15 of the Terrorism Act 2000;

Publishing or distributing written material intending thereby to stir up religious hatred or hatred on grounds of sexual orientation contrary to section 29C of the Public Order Act 1986, and;

Possession of racially inflammatory material contrary to section 23 of the Public Order Act 1986.

The spokesman for Counter Terrorism Policing North East added: "He has been taken to a local police station for questioning.

"Two properties in Bath have been searched as part of the investigation.

"The arrest is part of a pre-planned intelligence led investigation into suspected right wing terrorism online."
