Terror comes to quiet street as gunman opens fire in late night shooting

A gunman opened fire in a quiet residential street after a late night dispute turned into a dangerous confrontation.

The attacker was part of a group of men who are thought to have approached a home in Battenburg Road, Bolton, at around 10.25pm on Thursday night.

After driving up to the house, a member of the group opened fire, with bullets ripping through a black Vauxhall Corsa parked outside.

It is thought that the attacker fired between 2-4 shots into the vehicle, smashing the front window as well as both passenger windows.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt.

One witness, who claimed to have seen the shooting, said he saw a group of young men approach the home before the victim came out to speak to them.

"A group of guys smashed a man's car up and he went out to confront them," he explained.

"There were people shooting everywhere, there were bullets hitting the wall and the houses."

Police closed off Battenburg Road along with a small section of an adjacent street, Oxford Grove.

This morning, residents reported seeing forensic officers searching the area followed by members of GMP's Tactical Aid.

Police were also forced to move on a number of people who were congregating close to the barriers despite the current coronavirus lockdown.
