Terrifying video shows just how quickly wildfires are spreading in Australia

Terrifying video captured by a fire brigade in Australia shows the rapid rate at which bush fires are spreading across the continent.

The footage, captured on a dashcam by the Dunmore Rural Fire Brigade, shows flames appear out of nowhere before the wildfire jumps a road and engulfs the area in just three minutes.

The fire crew that captured the shock video was attempting to property protection measures in place ahead of an expected change in wind direction later in the evening.

But the blaze reached the town ten minutes earlier than forecast, leaving crews not choice but to endure the "ember attack".

None of the firefighters were injured.

A spokesperson for the fire brigade said: "This goes to show what happens in just over 3 minutes."

Dozens of fires continue to ravage the eastern and southern coasts of Australia, as a severe heat wave grips the area.

Maximum temperatures exceeding 40C in some locations will once again raise the wildfire danger in the states of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia on Friday.

Meanwhile, New South Wales - the state worst-hit by the season's bush fires - has announced it will launch an independent inquiry to establish why the season was so severe and whether climate change may have played a role.
