Terrifying footage shows the moment a man was seen brandishing a meat cleaver outside a school canteen in Wythenshawe.
The incident was filmed at Newall Green High School on Tuesday afternoon (January 7).
A parent claimed the school was 'put on lockdown' during the incident.
Officers rushed to the Greenbrow Road site at around 1.20pm today following reports a man with a blade was 'making threats'.
It is understood an arrest has been made, a police spokeswoman said.
The parent of a child at Newall Green High said: "My son rang me from school.
"I managed to speak to the deputy head.
"She said they were all a bit scared. He didn't manage to get inside the school.
"He was outside the canteen. They were all safe. The school was on lockdown. He was arrested."
The parent's child watched the drama unfold before his eyes while he was in the canteen.
Officers are understood to have 'chased' the man with the knife before detaining him.
A spokeswoman for GMP said: "We have got reports of a man with a meat cleaver making threats at around 1.20pm.
"Nobody was injured."
She said an arrest is believed to have been made.
A spokesperson for the school said: "Staff took appropriate action to make sure children were safe."
