Great white shark footage shows what it's like to be eaten in terrifying clip

This terrifying underwater footage shows what it's like to be eaten by a great white shark.

Brave photographer Alex Suh captured the moment the beast sunk its jaws into a cage he was scuba diving in - inches from his face - after mistaking it for a chunk of tuna.

Alex, from California, USA, visits Isla Guadalupe, Mexico, every year to study the behaviour of the huge apex predators - but this is the closest he's ever got to their teeth.

He says he wasn't scared at all about his safety and was mostly worried about the shark getting trapped.

Alex said: "I was taking images with my underwater camera rig when a great white shark came to feed on tuna chunk that is tied to a break away line and float.

"The shark was going for the tuna and rolled its eyes back, a normal instinct to protect their vulnerable eyes, and could not see the cage when it grabbed the tuna chunk and hit the cage while trying to eat.

"The shark ended up using the cage as leverage to swallow the tuna and then swam away.

"I was leaning forward slightly outside the cage when it came towards me where I stuck my head/body back in as it was just inches above my head.

"Until that time I had never witnessed that before.

"It was doing what it naturally does when eating dead or dying fish.

"Without sharks our oceans and reefs would be ruined if they did not clean the ocean of dead and diseased animals- the waters would continue to be polluted from the decay."
